4 Luxury Experiences in Mexico City [worth the splurge]

The first thing anyone will tell you after visiting Mexico City is that it’s a BIG city, overwhelmingly big sometimes, meaning you’ll find yourself a bit lost in a pool of options. But, if you fancy some unique and luxury experiences in Mexico City, that are actually worth the splurge, you can’t go wrong with these:

1. Flying over Teotihuacán

Hopping on a hot air balloon to watch the sunrise, while flying over the archaeological site of Teotihuacán, is without a doubt one of the most magical experiences near Mexico City.

Having climbed the pyramids and walked the paths of Teotihuacán countless of times made us a bit skeptical about what an aerial view could offer. Oh, how naive we were. Just remembering that moment gives us goosebumps. Seeing this great pre-Hispanic city all at once, completely empty and in total silence was mesmerizing. For the entire ride (45min) we couldn’t stop thinking what this kingdom must have looked like, all covered in colors and surrounded by tons of houses. What a sight…

2. Unwinding at the spa

Traveling can be grueling, especially when you want to cover a lot of ground in just a few days. If, like us, you’ve never felt ‘relaxed’ after returning from a vacation (lol!), you might want to start booking a massage on your last day.

A beautiful, beautiful, spa in Mexico City that we recommend is Tina Belo. Not only will you feel totally renewed, you’ll also snap a great pic for Instagram (see ours, here). They have tons of treatments, but we suggest asking for their ’90 minutes Happy Me Day Spa’, which includes a facial and a massage. And they use Dermatologica products, which my super sensitive skin appreciates.

3. A real fine dining experience

Mexico City has tons of award winning restaurants that will give you a unique dining experience. For example, if you fancy an Italian/Mexican cuisine, we recommend Rosetta. A fantastic menu by chef Elena Reygadas, where pastas and moles are the highlights (oh, and the homemade bread they bring to the table is also out of this world), all set up in a gorgeous townhouse in La Roma neighborhood. Voted one of the 50 best restaurants in Latin America last year.

Other restaurants you may enjoy: Pujol, Nicos, Máximo Bistrot and Quintonil.

4. Drinks at a pre-Hispanic inspired bar

There’s no other bar like this one in Mexico City. Hidden in the basement of a building, Xaman Bar offers a unique experience that combines Mexico’s pre-Hispanic botanical culture and the spirituality of ancient shamanic rituals. Both the atmosphere and the cocktails will transport you to a fancy, yet rustic, Mexican adventure.

Try their tequila and mezcal creations! The one in the photo is called ‘Tea Time’ and it has pineapple tea, honey, lemon juice, chili liqueur and tequila. It’s a-ma-zing!
